Veda and Upanishad

The term VEDA is a Sanskrit Word. From the base of Veda - Knowledge, Wisdom, insight and Sacred Writings are derivatives. The word VEDA is derived out of sound ‘Vidh’ – means to know. Vedas are the repository of the Eternal Knowledge that provide us, the inner knowledge of the subtle energies of Life, Mind and Intelligence that permeate the Universe and allow us to link up with these in our daily lives. As a consequence of having this knowledge one can attain and experience long lasting Bliss. The chanting of Veda Swaras create an aura of Vibrations in and around the atmosphere. Our ancient Rishis experienced this inexplicable Bliss and transferred the knowledge of Bliss to their disciples. This is called Guru shishya parampara.

The Vedas are called Apourusheya- meaning “not of human” or “impersonal, authorless” Vedas are not written or composed by any human being. They are of Divine Origin delivered directly from the Almighty – Purusha. Later Maharshi Vyasa Bhagavan divided Vedas into 4 types Rigveda, Yajurveda, Samaveda and Atharvaveda. Each Veda is again subdivided into Samhita, Brahmana, Aranyaka and Upanishad.

Upanishad is the Eternal Order or Eternal Path and ultimate treasure of knowledge which teaches universal truth and helps one to discriminate clearly between Sathya and Mithya or truth and untruth.

One has to learn Vedas and Upanishads from a competent Guru sitting down near. Systematic and consistent study of vedas under a competent Guru will help one to achieve the goal of human life that is Moksha – being in a state of eternal Aananda /Happiness for ever.
